In the district opener for both teams, the home-team Panthers escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Lake
Highlands Wildcats on Wednesday night. Both pitchers kept the opposing offenses in check, allowing five
hits each. Mark Roberson pitched a complete game, allowing a single earned run, while striking out 5.
Roberson earned his third win of the season. The key East hit came off the bat of Derek Bell, whose
2-run single gave the Collins nine their first lead. Adam Humes added an RBI single, which turned out
to be the game winner. Conner Zmolik broke the ice with an early double. On a related note, the
concession stand hosted a chilly field mouse, while selling 20 cheeseburgers, 13 hamburgers, 15 cups
of hot chocolate, and 11 ring pops. Mike Wiley performed admirably in his first game behind the Plano
East microphone.
Your Panthers join West and Berkner as early leaders in the 9-5A district race.
