Plano East NewsPlano East shuts out Berkner, 6-011:36 PM CDT on Friday, April 11, 2008PLANO – Part of Plano East's formula for playing its best baseball during district has been pitching senior Mark Roberson at home. Yes, call it home cooking. Roberson was in his comfort zone again Friday night, tossing a five-hitter in Plano East's 6-0 victory over Richardson Berkner in a key District 9-5A game. He improved to 4-1 in 9-5A starts, with all of his victories coming at home. Plano East (14-10-1, 8-3) continued its hot play, winning for the fifth in six games while taking control of second place in district. Roberson (7-1), who had 11 strikeouts, didn't have any walks. He did hit three batters but managed to work around it. "He's been amazing this year at our place," said Jeff Emens, Plano East's ace. "He's not giving up many runs and he keeps the ball down." Roberson said he relied heavily on his two-seam fastball because Berkner's hitters were crowding the plate. "I was just letting it run inside on them," Roberson said. He admits to feeling more comfortable pitching at home, where he is used to the mound and the dimensions. "And you're not traveling in the bus and you get to hang out in your own locker room," he said. "It helps me prepare better." Roberson got most of the offense he needed from junior Adam Humes, who had two hits and three RBIs. Berkner (11-10, 6-5) saw its two-game winning streak snapped. It also fell into a three-way tie for third place in 9-5A with Allen and Wylie with three games left in the regular season. |
